This study analyzes the survival rate after start-ups and the predictors of self-employment survival probability, separately for non agriculture- forestry-fishery sectors and agriculture-forestry-fishery sectors. When analyzing survival rate, the mean self-employment duration for those in the non agriculture-forestry-fishery sectors is 16 years(median 13 years), which is quite shorter than 24 years(median 24 years) for those in the agriculture-forestry-fishery sectors. The results of Cox Proportional Hazards regression confirmed that age at starting self-employment and business assets are strong predictors which influence survival probability of both sectors. But other factors affecting the survival probability were different between two sectors. The factors affecting the survival probability for non agriculture-forestry-fishery were prior experience in the same industry, pension, industry, and the factors affecting the survival probability for agriculture-forestry-fishery sectors were sex, work type prior to start-up. This suggests that it is more effective to combine common support strategies and different support strategies depending on non agriculture-forestry-fishery and agriculture-forestry-fishery sectors.
